Attic Blues

Here is my first quilt which as you now know is not going in the exhibition but I am pretty pleased with it. Hope it all stays together for the quilting.
I think I have changed the settings so you can be notified if there are comments.

Spectacular Bloom in Progress

I've done some monoprinting:

I've photoshopped auditioned some leaves and words (but of course, alphabet stamps don't come in this scale - rats):
And then I did some more monoprinting and bubble-wrapped some water:
My original plan was to paint wash in the white background but now I'm thinking I should have monoprinted onto coloured fabric.  Lisa, I don't suppose you have a 50in length of light turquoise/aqua fabric?

Spectacular Blossom - Statement of Intent

Since our get together in December, I have been mulling over TT ideas but, now I have to submit my Sydney Quilt Show entry form,it's time to FOCUS. So here is the concept design accompanying my entry form - monoprinted pohutukawa blooms with stamps kiwi words and a textured sea that might even incorporate some paua beads if I can avoid it looking too naff. No doubt the design will change considerably but, it's a start...

By the way, I tried out some monoprinting in the BrownSageBlue Twelve by Twelve challenge although I ultimately selected a pieced work for my official contribution.
Here are some practice monoprints on paper:

I've started doing

instead of just thinking about it. The top section is stamped to create pieces with pattern. The other pieces are screen printed to create shapes.

I just need to wait for the paint to dry so I can start cutting....

Blackbird in my Garden

This is my first sample quilt.  Small - 9 x 10 inches.  There will be colour eventually and I have no idea whether there will be other birds or just black birds.
Black Bird in My Garden

He is woodblock - my very first one! I'm so pleased he worked.  I made him fro a photo I took in our new garden - my hard drive died just before Christmas and I've lost the photo! Bugger!

I think this is the way I'm heading.

Ideas I'm Playing With

eThese are the ideas I am playing with.  The purple bird is a woodcut (he won't be purple).  The little framed pieces are gelatine plate prints and the other two are prints cut from erasers.
For some reason blackbirds are at the top of my mind at moment.  It could be because we have blackbirds in our new garden.  We haven't seen a blackbird for several years!  I love them.  They are raucous and forward but they are real characters.

This is the beginnings of a small sample quilt, just to see if the concept works!

I'd love some feedback!

Oops, I nearly forgot to say, Hi Robin!

Some Hawaiian Inspiration

I'm taking a break from being a mature, responsible adult and spending a some time in Hawaii with my DSIL. While sampling the local cuisine and breweries, I have found some inspiration that I thought I'd share.
